I think many of you have seen my statements calling V for Vendetta a libertarian movie, despite what the critics and even the writer, Alan Moore, has claimed.
I, of course, love Iron Man and Iron Man 2. Whenever I’ve ever done one of those silly Internet quizzes about ‘which Marvel superhero are you the most like’, it never fails to come up as Tony Stark’s alter ego. His comment about "I’m getting tired of the liberal agenda," in the latest movie was priceless and completely unexpected.
Now comes Robin Hood, who is usually wrapped around socialist cliches about ‘fighting against the man’ and ‘robbing from the rich and giving to the poor’. But, once again, the liberals and socialists have missed the point on this iconic hero, and it is sounding like the new movie actually going to be telling it in a fashion where it is more obvious.
Robin Hood::
1) Is a foreign war veteran
2) Fights against the tyranny of government, and especially overtaxation
3) Discovers over time more and more people like him, forming into the Merry Men
Oh my god, he’s a tea partier! He’s a right wing extremist!
Yes, like V, Robin Hood fights against tyranny of government. Now, let us point out one more thing about the entire Robin Hood myth, and that is the famous statement "rob from the rich to give to the poor." Socialists like this statement, because for the uninformed masses, this is the goal of socialism. However, in the Middle Ages, who were the rich? Aristocrats. The Ruling Class. In other words, the Government.
There is precious little different between Middle Age feudalism and modern day Socialism in application. The government allocates the money as they see fit. Socialism is just supposed to be more ‘enlightened’ about it and the money distributed to help the people instead of holding big parties on Wednesday nights filled with wagu beef…
Oh, er…nevermind.
So, you see, Robin Hood is not only one of us, he could be seen as one of the original tea partiers. Already one critic is in a tizzy about it. I’m sure more will be coming. Again, Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott are no conservatives, but once again Hollywood has made a libertarian movie without even realizing it.
